A Walkerton bank is without a front door and under heavy guard after a man drove his car right into it.
Police quickly arrested Adam Mann, 22, of Walkerton. As of Sunday night, Mann remained behind bars at the St. Joseph County Jail on a preliminary felony charge of Criminal Recklessness.
The incident started around 12 p.m. Sunday when Mann was seen smashing in the windows of his Honda Civic with a bat while stopped at a railway crossing.
Once officers arrived, Mann sped off, leading police on a short half-mile pursuit.
At speeds of more than 40 mph, Mann drove down an embankment and through the Teachers Credit Union parking lot before crashing into the bank’s lobby.
Mann is believed to have been drunk or high at the time and was taken to Memorial Hospital for wrist pain.
Teachers Credit Union says damage cost are well beyond $10,000.
