Man who threatened Donnelly office in 2011 is released

More than two years have passed since a Granger man threatened a staff member at the South Bend office of then-Congressman Joe Donnelly.

Today, that man, Brett Keiling, was released from federal custody.

Keiling pleaded guilty to making the threat in January of 2011, the same month Arizona congresswoman Gabriel Giffords was shot and wounded.

Keiling has been in federal custody since his arrest, and today he was sentenced to time served.

He told the congressional staff member he felt like he was being stabbed in the back and then threatened to harm the employee.

Keiling's plea agreement requires him to attend psychiatric counseling and bans him from visiting the office or home of a public official without prior approval from the probation office.
