The construction worker trapped in a hole Wednesday night is safe and sound.
Supervisors at Memorial Hospital say that the man was never admitted to the hospital but received treatment in the emergency room and has now been released.
Around 2 pm on Wednesday, the man become lodged in a pile of caved-in dirt while working at a construction site on Diamond Ave. on South Bend's near northwest side.
Firefighters and first responders worked for hours to free the man by using shovels and a giant vacuum.
After he was finally extricated from the hole, he was taken to the hospital and checked for precautionary reasons.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
