Man sentenced for friend's death

A Middlebury man is set to serve 6.5 years in prison for killing his friend last summer.

The Elkhart Truth reports that 43-year-old Larry Hewitt was sentenced on one count of reckless homicide.

He told police he thought he was responsible for the accidental death of his friend, 53-year-old Charles Wolfinger, in July of last year.

He says they were drinking and got into a fight on the Elkhart River. He fled when Wolfinger became unresponsive.

Wolfinger died of multiple blunt force injuries, possible drowning and acute intoxication.
