Man rescued from Galien River Monday night

A 53-year-old man was rescued from the cold waters of the Galien River Monday night.

Employees of the Harbor Grand Hotel in New Buffalo reported that a man was in the river, outside his boat, and couldn't get out, just before 10 p.m.

They say the heard someone screaming for help, and found the man clinging to a ladder, just above the water’s edge. Once police arrived, he was lifted out of the river and transported to the hospital.

It's not known how long the man was in the water, but he did come to the police department Tuesday to thank crews for saving him.
