LAPORTE Police are investigating an online job scam.

WKVI reports that a man from LaPorte County applied for several jobs online. He later received an email saying he would be given money to buy, test and review items at a local supermarket.

The scammers sent him a cashier's check to deposit into his bank account. He did that and was subsequently told that they had given him too much money, and he needed to send back the money through Western Union. The man later found out the check was fraudulent, and he had been scammed out of $1,000.

Police say you should never respond to any unsolicited inquiries online, over the phone, or even from door-to-door salesmen. Be especially wary anytime money is involved.
