A North Liberty area man was taken to the hospital after a police chase reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
The man was ejected from his vehicle near the intersection of State Road 23 and Lath Trail, just north of North Liberty, around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police tell NewsCenter16, before the chase, the man was allegedly involved in a property damage crash where he struck an object at a business and reportedly left the scene. Police later caught up with the man, who they say was speeding at speeds that reached over 100 miles per hour.
The man crashed his car on a curve near State Road 23 and Lath Trail. He was ejected from his vehicle and airlifted to a local hospital with minor injuries. The man was responsive and talking to first responders. North Liberty Police tell NewsCenter16 he was kept overnight.
The lead officer in the crash radioed to officers behind that the group was approaching a curve and to back off. That's when the suspect continued speeding and lost control at the curve.
A criminal investigation is underway. Police do believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The man's name will not be released until possible formal charges are filed.
No one else was hurt in the crash, and no officers were involved.
