Man crashes car, gets hit by train

Buchanan Township, Mich. An 18-year-old man is in critical but stable condition at a hospital after being struck by a train early Wednesday morning; and alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Crews arrived at the scene, just east of Bakertown Rd. in Buchanan Township, just after 1 a.m.

They found the Niles Township man seriously injured next to the tracks. He told them he'd been in a rollover crash prior to being hit by the train.

Officers were able to find his vehicle in a corn field west of the area, on Galien-Buchanan Rd.

After investigating the scene, Michigan State Police say they believe he lost control of his car, left the roadway and rolled several times. When he walked away from the scene, he was hit by the train.
