SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A man who prosecutors say was involved in the shooting death of a South Bend toddler was in court Tuesday.
Joshua Hodge, 18, is charged with assisting a criminal in connection with the death of two-year-old John Swoveland Junior.
The toddler was playing on Campeau Street when a stray bullet struck him.
Court documents show Hodge initially denied being present when shots were fired.
He also is accused of hiding two of the other suspects in his home.
Eight people have been charged in connection with the crime.
Hodge's trial is set to begin September 29.
