STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Knox man accused of beating his wife to death, kidnapping a man from a business parking lot, stealing a car at gun point and leading police on a high speed chase is back in Starke County.
According to our reporting partners at WKVI, Gary Chavez is charged with one count each of murder, carjacking and kidnapping.
The kidnapping charge comes into play because one of the carjacking victims was sitting in the passenger seat as Chavez drove away from Bailey's Discount Center parking lot.
Police say Chavez stole two more vehicles before police finally cornered him back on June 6.
When he realized he was caught, Chavez shot himself in the face.
Saturday he was picked up from the Cook County Jail in Illinois and brought back to Starke County after being hospitalized in Chicago until recently.
