A Warsaw man is recovering from second and third degree burns he sustained while trying to burn trash.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the Kosciusko Community Hospital emergency room just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday after hospital workers notified them of a burn victim.
The victim, Toby Daniel Jackson, 31, of Warsaw told police he was trying to burn trash with gasoline when the fire exploded back to the gas can, and then onto him.
Jackson said he started the fire at a home on Backwater Rd. near North Webster, and that his mother took him to the emergency room for treatment. He was then transported to St. Joseph Regional Burn Center in Fort Wayne in serious condition with second-degree burns to his neck and arms, and third-degree burns to his hands.
Deputies are now attempting to locate the original scene of the fire, but after checking multiple locations they have not determined the exact location. The investigation is still going on into the circumstances of the incident as well.
