Jerry C. Winfield, 54, has been charged with aggravated battery, a class B felony, in the June 13 stabbing of William Johnson.

Bond was previously set at $100,000.

Winfield remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail as of Monday morning.

On June 13, a South Bend Police Department officer on patrol down Jefferson near LaSalle Park Homes found William Johnson lying on the ground, bleeding from apparent stab wounds.

Mr. Johnson was transported to the hospital, and the County Metro Homicide Unit (CMHU) was called in to handle the investigation.

Winfield was brought in for questioning and was arrested.

Winfield allegedly stabbed William Johnson during an argument about a debt Johnson owed Winfield.
