MISHAWAKA, Ind. A man accused of shooting and killing his brother and sister-in-law was back in court this morning.
Steven Clippinger, 41, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.
Clippinger allegedly shot Matthew and Lisa Clippinger in their Mishawaka home while their kids were inside in June of 2012.
He was back in court for a status hearing Thursday morning, where a mitigation expert was requested.
The state filed a request for life in prison without parole.
Should he be convicted, Clippinger would be entitled to have a mitigation expert testify on his behalf in that phase of the trial.
Clippinger's girlfriend at the time, Jennifer Leveque, is accused of helping him pull off the crime.
She's charged with assisting a criminal and giving a handgun to a felon.
She's due back in court on March 26.
