A South Bend man accused of beating three puppies to death appeared back in court Monday afternoon.
Joseph Perry, 38, faces multiple counts of mutilating an animal after the remains of three puppies were discovered behind Perry’s home on Ironwood Rd. in South Bend in August of 2012.
Perry was nowhere to be found at the time the animals were found, but he turned himself in after police issued a warrant for his arrest.
He then told police, and even went on camera with NewsCenter16, saying he was out of town when the puppies died.
Perry told police he left the dogs in the care of a friend, but had not been able to contact him.
Perry will be back in court March 4 for a record date and on March 17 for his trial.
