Make-a-wish foundation connects teen to Notre Dame football

NOTRE DAME Fifteen-year-old Cameron of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania had his wish granted to be a Notre Dame football player on Thursday, October 31, 2013.

Cameron, an avid fan of Notre Dame football has always dreamed of being on the team. Battling chronic kidney disease, Cameron is unable to play tackle football because of his medical condition.

With the help of Make-A-Wish® and the Notre Dame football program, Cameron spent three days at Notre Dame, giving him the opportunity to experience firsthand what being a part of the Fighting Irish is like.

As part of his wish, Cameron toured the campus and met the football staff and coaches. He also ate dinner with the team at training tables before joining his family at O'Rourke's as special guests of Coach Kelly during his weekly live radio show.

"Notre Dame went above and beyond to create a wish experience for Cameron that made him really feel like he was on the team," said Wish Program Manager, Jennifer Ulsomer. "Cameron's wish will give him so many happy memories that he can reflect on as he continues to fight his medical condition. We are truly grateful to Notre Dame for helping us make Cameron's wish come true."

Cameron also had the opportunity to attend a team practice, tour the press box, and be a part of the pep rally on Friday night. On Saturday, Cameron participated in the team walk across campus into the stadium where he watched final warm-ups from the sidelines, then joined the crowd in the stands to watch the game.

"The University of Notre Dame football program was honored to spend our weekend with Cameron and help him fulfill his wish," said Ernest Jones, director of player development and engagement. "It was inspiring for our team and we will carry his energetic personality with us through the remainder of our season."
