Major detours begin Monday for Michiana drivers

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY Michiana drivers should prepare for some major detours Monday morning.

In Mishawaka, northbound Main Street will be closed between Douglas Road and University Drive starting at 7:00 am.

Douglas traffic will be detoured to Fir, but there will be local access to businesses Between Douglas and Indian Ridge Blvd.

This will continue through July 15. Then work will begin on the southbound lanes on that same stretch of road.

Also starting Monday, Juniper Road will be closed between Douglas Road and Cleveland Road.

Local traffic will have access from Cleveland Road, or on Juniper Road, to Wellworth Avenue and Pendle Street. The official detour route for northbound traffic will be as follows: west on Douglas Road, then north on SR. 933, then east on Cleveland Road. The official detour route for southbound traffic will be as follows: Cleveland Road west to SR. 933 south to Douglas Road.

This work is part of the re-alignment of Douglas Road. It is anticipated to last 30 days weather permitting.

Coinciding with this closure work there will be construction of bike lanes along Juniper Road from Cleveland Road to the new Douglas Road alignment.
