Edwardsburg, Mich. The Michigan State University marching band continued a tradition by paying a visit to Edwardsburg High School this afternoon. The last time the Spartan marching band held a workshop for high school musicians was eight years ago when MSU played Notre Dame.
This time around the Edwardsburg High School band members were joined by musicians from 6 other schools in welcoming MSU. The roughly 400 students were treated to a performance followed by a workshop with the collegiate instrumentalists.
“It’s just a tremendous opportunity for all of our students,” said Principal Jeff Leslie of Edwardsburg. “They get to learn from actual college marching band students – collegiate musicians.”
Leslie said the event helps to foster the dreams of those who aspire to one day play for MSU.
“They were kind of like rock stars when they came in on their buses,” he said. “It’s very exciting for the whole community. A lot of community members are here, decked out in the Michigan State gear.”
The MSU marching band will also be playing at the halftime of the game between Dowagiac High School and Berrien Springs High School on Friday night.
