A Michigan circuit court judge has ordered bond reduced from $5,000 to $500 for an Indiana woman charged with contempt for cursing.
WOOD-TV reports that 49-year-old LaRue Ford was expected to pay the lower bond and earn her release Friday from jail.
Ford was charged with contempt after Berrien County District Court clerks overheard her using profanity while trying to settle an issue related to a 2004 traffic ticket.
An American Civil Liberties Union attorney said Ford "essentially muttered a swear word to herself" on Dec. 4 as she was leaving the clerk's office in Niles, just north of the Indiana state line.
Ford was later charged with contempt and jailed Dec. 18 after her bond was revoked because she could not show a permanent address in Indiana.
