Long tax dispute for local parish settled

A higher power has intervened in a dispute that has long plagued St. Bavo Parish in Mishawaka.

The question is, should the parish have to pay property taxes on some land that was donated in 2005?

While the property should clearly be tax exempt, it has long been alleged that the parish failed to file the proper paperwork.

The higher power is Indiana’s Board of Tax Review which has now ruled that St. Bavo’s exemption application got lost in the mail.

The parish does not owe property taxes for the year 2006.
