Many who went to the St. Joseph County-City building for early voting got a surprise when they walked through the doors. The line for voting looped around the entire lobby.

The elevator area crowded by people who were hoping to beat the crowds on election day.

And, though this location has been busy throughout the week, officials said Sunday is the most people they have seen show up to cast their ballots.

“I was surprised to see a really, really long line because I thought we would just get through quickly. Its worth waiting for I guess,” said Kiersten James.

“When I first came in and saw the crowd, I thought they were just basically registering, not the voting line. And the guy told me this way ma'am. I’ve been here for 45 minutes,” said Charlotte Ford.

“There's no way I'll be able to make it on election day Tuesday by the time I get out off of work and vote, so early voting is the thing for me ,” said Terry Sarul.

So far, more than 20,000 people have voted early in the county.
