Local superintendent named 2013 Outstanding Educator

Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Jerry Thacker has been named the 2013 Outstanding Educator by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS).

He will receive the award at a banquet in Indianapolis on December 9, 2013.

The award recognizes Dr. Thacker for his “leadership in (his) school district and community that has enhanced educational opportunities for all the children, staff, and parents of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation,” said JT Coopman, executive director of IAPSS.

Under Thacker’s leadership, PHM School Corporation has been rated an A district, and all 15 schools received an A grade from the Indiana Department of Education. PHM is ranked among the top school districts in the state.

Thacker has devoted his career to public education. He has been a teacher, principal and administrator. He was Superintendent of Schools in Logansport before coming to PHM in 2006.

This is not the first award for Thacker. In 2012, he was named Indiana Superintendent of the Year as well as Alumnus of the Year for both IUSB School of Education and Bethel College.

Thacker and his wife, Donna, a retired music teacher, enjoy attending numerous school events at Penn-Harris-Madison and meeting and talking with students and parents throughout the district.
