While the government worries about where to house thousands of undocumented children, a group in our area is getting involved in making them feel welcome.
The Coalition for the Care of Refugee Children collected hundreds of teddy bears through the "Bears for Care" donation drive.
They'll go to children who have crossed our borders from Central America, and don't have a place to go.
“The kids have seen so much aggression right when they cross the border,” Sam Centellas, executive director, La Casa de Amistad, said. “They've seen protesters, they've seen all that. We want to show that there is compassion in this country and there are people that love and support them.”
The group will deliver the bears to the archdiocese of Chicago, who will give them to the children.
