You've probably heard of plain waffles, blueberry waffles, maybe even chicken and waffles, but what about waffle sandwiches?
Well, that exactly what teachers at Niles High School had for lunch Thursday.
Carbon's Golden Malted Pancake and Waffle Truck made its way to the school for a teacher appreciation day.
Teachers came out on their lunch break to grab a sandwich and some cheesecake, all on a waffle. Carbon's says it took them over an hour to prepare for Thursday's event. They served about 100 to 150 people.
And while they were only able to choose from three different sandwiches Thursday, there are about 55 sandwiches on their full menu.
“People come up to the truck and they say, "Your putting a sandwich on a waffle?" says Becky Beckman the marketing vice president at Carbon's. “But you really have to think its bread. It is just another form of bread that's holding your sandwich together and it is just kind of fun and unique. As soon as they try it they either come up for another sandwich or we get so many posts on our Facebook or Twitter of, oh my gosh where is the truck going to be we are craving a waffle sandwich.”
Becky says the truck has been on the streets for more than a year now.
She says they will head to Chicago soon for a "100 Days of Summer Tour" where they'll serve their gourmet waffles on the street.
