BERRIEN COUNTY Ignoring a jury summons could land the person who is supposed to judge the guilty, in jail.

According to WSJM, 50 people failed to show up for jury duty at >, Berrien County's trial court in September. All of them have since contacted the court to reschedule, but if they hadn't, they could have been convicted of "contempt of court” – punishable with fines and jail time.

The Berrien County trial court typically calls about 15,000 people a year for jury duty, but only 800 eventually serve.
