The basement of the St. Joseph County Public Library exploded with drumming and dancing as members of Indiana Black Expo celebrated their annual citywide Kwanza event Thursday night.
The event kicked off with a drum circle and traditional African dancing, then the community elders were introduced to the room.
Attendees not only got to enjoy the festivities but also received a history lesson about the meaning behind Kwanza and its American traditions.
The holiday celebrates what it means to be African and runs through January 1st.
