Michigan Senator John Proos of St. Joseph County is asking Michigan’s Legislative Council to pass a bill that would allow police to search parolees without a warrant.
Under current law, a parole officer may search parolees at any time, but police in general do not have that authority.
A seven month Detroit Free Press investigation found the Michigan Department of Corrections failed to properly supervise some of the state's parolees.
The senate judiciary committee is reviewing Proos's bill, known as SB 1315.
