ELKHART, Ind.-- Nearly 200 business and community leaders learned to “lean” on one another today.

A daylong conference at Elkhart General Hospital was devoted to the concept of making manufacturing, healthcare and education entities leaner in the way they operate.

“Lean manufacturing means we take the waste out of the process, we make the process more Robust, more value added, and less costly and shorten lead time which means a manufacturer has to provide a product to a customer when a customer needs it, not when he can make it,” said Jim Walsh from the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce.

Today's presenters included lean experts from the likes of the Damon Corporation and Notre Dame.
