The countdown is on in a nationwide contest that will help a local family win a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

Two months ago, we told you about a contest that is a part of National Mobility Awareness Month.

Desiree Kindig entered the contest and nominated her mom as her hero.

Four years ago, she suffered an asthma attack that led to cardiac arrest.

Since then her mom gave up everything and became her full time caretaker and has been carrying her to and from the car.

The family started out with a dozen votes, and now have more than 6,000.

Voting ends Friday at midnight.
