SOUTH BEND, Ind. The 41st annual South Bend Spelling Bee was held this morning at Lasalle Intermediate Academy.
The competition kicked off at nine this morning with spellers competing from 5th through 8th grade from the ten intermediate schools in South Bend.
Each of the schools send a student from each grade to compete totaling 40 students.
The kids take it very seriously as they work hard to be in the event.
Alexa Snyder from Jefferson traditional school won first place.
“These kids take it very seriously,” said George Azar, Principal of Lasalle Intermediate Academy. “It's just like a sport. You have to practice to become better. And they do as you usually see them with their dictionaries.”
Six spellers are advancing to regionals at Bethel College, and have a chance to reach nationals.
