Lakeville Fire Department holds yard sale

Folks showed their support today for a struggling volunteer fire department.

Dozens stopped by a community-wide yard sale to benefit the Lakeville Fire Department.

The event kicked-off around 5:30 p.m. at Wilson Field and continued until everything was sold.

From shoes and flags to glassware and holiday décor, every item auctioned-off was donated and at least 50 businesses contributed.

All money raised will go to the department's depleting operating fund.
“I am very pleased with the turnout and I am very thankful to the businesses all the way from the U.S. 20 bypass to U.S. 6 on 31 who helped contribute to this benefit auction today,” said George Schafer, Lakeville Fire Department Chief. “It has just been a great, a blessing for all those people who have participated or helped out in some way whether it be a gift certificate or a large ticket item, they are all very useful to our department.”

The fire chief says the department will barely make it through the year so all of the money collected today will provide a safety net should anything break down.
