AAA Travel projects 34.1 million Americans will travel during the Labor Day holiday weekend. The total number of travelers is expected to increase 4.2% from 2012, the highest since before the Recession.

The largest share of travelers will depart on Friday, August 30, and 85% are expected to go by car. In Indiana, AAA says just over 813,000 Hoosiers are expected to travel, 726,000 by car.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says drivers should plan routes ahead of time and use the following list of construction areas to avoid.

Porter County: lane restrictions on I-94, 1.5 miles east of U.S. 20 ext and 1 mile east of the Indiana Toll Road Exit

Lake County, Hammond: The Nine Span Bridget is closed on State Road 152

LaPorte County: The U.S. 6 Bridge is closed .5 mile south of U.S. 35

Starke County: U.S. 35 Bridge is closed .5 mile south of U.S. 30

St. Joseph County: The Lincolnway Bridget is closed on State Road 933, 1 mile west of the Elkhart County Line; there are lane restrictions between U.S. 20 exit and the Brick and Cleveland Road Exit on U.S. 31 bypass; and State Road 23 in the Five Points area, has multiple side street closures.

INDOT has placed a moratorium for the holiday weekend, between Friday, August 30 and Tuesday, September 3, on the following:

-Kern Road, between U.S. 31 and Locust Road will be reopened
-The Westbound ramp to northbound Cline Avenue will reopen on I-80/90 Toll Road
