LaPorte A LaPorte Co. inmate serving time for murder, asked to be put to death, but now a judge has denied that request.

Walter Leach, 61, didn't specify a reason why he wanted to die by lethal injection. He's serving 95 years for the 1995 shooting death of Howard VanZant, as VanZant was leaving a Nappanee bar.

Leach has tried multiple times to get his sentence overturned, the Northwest Indiana Times, reports.

The LaPorte judge says he denied the death row request, since leach is in Indiana State Prison, and out of his jurisdiction.

Leach says he's hoping the governor or other official will still grant his request.
