South Bend, Ind. It’s a program that is now offered at the Kroc Center in South Bend, baseball. This is the first year they are offering it all thanks to a non-profit organization known as “Rounding Third”. Travis Beam, the athletics manager says Rounding Third is an organization that wants to bring back baseball to South Bend.
The organization didn’t have kids to do it so they contacted the Kroc and it turned out to be a great partnership. The organization also donated gloves, bats, pitching machines and more to get this program up and running.
Now, the Kroc offers t-ball for kids between the ages of 4 to 6 and baseball to kids between the ages of 7 through 10.
If you are interested in having your kid participate, the program lasts 7 weeks. It started June 2 and runs until July 19. It is $25 per kid. For $25, each kid gets a t-shirt, 7 weeks or practice and 5 weeks of games.
T-ball has practice on the east side of the turf at the Kroc Center on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and baseball has practice at that same location on Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Games are on Thursdays at those same times.
During this time kids will learn how to throw a baseball, catch, field the ball, hit and run bases. As always, parents are encouraged to attend.
“We want parents not just to be out there sitting in the bleachers, but if they want to, interacting with their kids out on the field; when they are home, helping them learn to throw a baseball, catch a baseball with their kids,” explains Beam.
So far they have about 75 kids but are hoping to get more. There is still time to sign your child up, just go to the Kroc Center, give them a call at (574) 233-9471 or go to their website.
