Kernan's Heroes hosts donation drive for local homeless veterans

A donation drive kicked off in South Bend on Monday to help support those who have served our country.

Kernan's Heroes is hosting the donation drive, which runs until May 11.

It was created to help homeless veterans get back on their feet after returning home, and the organizers are hoping that it kicks off an increase of giving back to those in need.

Over the next week there are seven different places throughout St. Joseph County you can go to donate. Those locations are:

Bull Moose Tube – 29851 C.R. 20 Elkhart

American Legion Post 357 – 5414 W. Sample St. South Bend

VFW 360 – 1307 E. Jefferson St. Mishawaka

VFW 88 – 1519 W. Bristol St. Elkhart

VFW 9820 – 4829 Linden Ave. South Bend

South Bend Fire Dept. – 1222 S. Michigan St. South Bend

Mishawaka Fire Dept. – 333 E. Douglas Rd. Mishawaka

The group is also seeking donations to purchase a van to transport veterans.

Kernan’s Heroes can help house a veteran for up to 6 months. While in the program, a case manager will help them with military benefits, medical needs and transitioning to permanent housing.
