Ken Nemes honored for working in public safety
South Bend is honoring one of their own because of his hard work as a volunteer.
Ken Nemes, the Outreach Program Coordinator for Memorial Hospital Medflight Program, was awarded The William T. Schmidt Lifetime Achievement and Education Award Wednesday.
The award recognizes a person in the public safety profession who has dedicated his or her career to the education and training of others.
“We look for people that fit the award, that fit the level of commitment and dedication, and that honor and respect bill and we found a recipient in that,” says mike ornat the chief of the department of public safety.
“Well, it is good to give back to your community,” explains Ken Nemes the Award Recipient. “Sometimes we take things for granted for what we have and what others do not have. Providing that services in the area that maybe folks do not have the same things that we see, or the opportunities. It is good to give back, and certainly appreciate the opportunity to do that.”
The award was established in 1997 and is meant to encourage other safety professionals to work and live by the high standards set by William T. Schmidt, a veteran and Former South Bend Firefighter.
