An Indiana judge ruled that a $9.5 million winning lottery ticket cannot be cashed until a dispute over who owns the ticket is settled between coworkers at an Indianapolis hair salon.
Marion Superior Court Judge Heather Welch issued a temporary injunction on March 1 barring the state lottery commission from handing out the grand prize from the Hoosier Lotto to hair stylist Christina Shaw.
Seven of Shaw’s coworkers at Lou’s Creative Styles say they pooled their money with her and purchased the tickets as a group for the Feb. 16 drawing.
However, Shaw claims she purchased the winning ticket separately, and was not part of the office’s pool.
The lottery commission did not oppose the preliminary injunction.
