SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A brand new restaurant is opening its doors in South Bend on Monday.
BarBici is best described as serving a fast, casual Italian street food.
The restaurant is owned by the same group as the popular Hacienda Mexican chain.
“The food is made fresh right in front of you, and every meal starts with Tavaletta bread,” said Jeff Leslie, Exec. VP and Chief Marketing Officer of the Hacienda Group.
The Tavaletta is baked and stone fire grilled in house.
Then it's up to you.
"You walk down a little row, they ask you what you want, like a pasta or sandwich,” said Brandon, a patron. “Then you walk down the counter and they ask you individually, each ingredient, if you want more or less."
"Our emphasis is on the quality Italian ingredients that are going together in these meals any way the guest wants it," said Leslie.
For around $10, Barbici promises those fresh ingredients with an emphasis on a healthy lifestyle.
"'Bici' is Italian for bike,” said Leslie. “Short for bicicletta."
The eatery is situated in Eddy Street Commons at 1233 N. Eddy St. in South Bend, and hopes to draw in area professionals, college students and hungry community members who are looking for a healthy option.
“We really think we've found the right target here," said Leslie.
Diners can also choose an Italian soda, a fountain drink, or an adult beverage like an apple pear sangria or a frozen Bellini.
BarBici is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
