Rivalry Renewed: Irish to face Miami in Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve

No need to wait until 2012.

The Catholics vs Convicts rivalry will renew in 2010.

Notre Dame will meet Miami for the first time since 1990 in the Sun Bowl on New Years Eve at 2pm in El Paso.

Both teams are 7-5, but the Irish are riding momentum with three straight wins while Miami currently doesn't have a head coach after firing Randy Shannon.

Irish head coach Brian Kelly said that Ian Williams is practicing again and the Irish start defensive lineman is likely to be available for the Bowl game in four weeks.

Notre Dame was obligated to go to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando if selected, but the Irish were not picked.

Notre Dame and Miami have met 23 times with the Irish coming away with 15 wins, including i tnhe last meeting in 1990. The Irish also beat the Hurricanes 31-30 in 1988 en route to winning Notre Dame's last national championship.

Notre Dame and Miami will face each other at Soldier Field in 2012.
