Irish women to face Maryland in Final Four Sunday

The Irish women's basketball team will face ACC foe Maryland in the Final Four Sunday at 6:30pm ET in Nashville.

Notre Dame, a #1 seed, enters the Final Four with a 36-0 record. Maryland is a #4 seed and defeated Louisville Tuesday night to reach the national semifinals.

Notre Dame will play the game without senior standout Natalie Achonwa, who was lost for the season on Tuesday due to a torn ACL suffered in Monday night's Elite 8 victory over Baylor.

The Irish defeated Maryland in the regular season 87-83 at Maryland. It was an unusual game that saw Notre Dame blow a 20-point lead before ultimately pulling out the win. Achonwa played just half that game due to foul trouble but not having her on Sunday could prove to be a major issue against Terps All-American Alyssa Thomas, who is a major presence inside.

The other Final Four matchup will feature top seeded UConn taking on 2nd seeded Stanford.

The National Championship is Tuesday night.
