Notre Dame loses center Nick Martin for rest of the season

The injury bug is back for the Irish football team.

Two days after losing nose guard Louis Nix for the season due to a knee injury, the Irish lost center Nick Martin to a knee injury as well.

Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly says Martin suffered a "significant knee injury" during Saturday's 23-13 win over BYU and will be out for Notre Dame's regular season finale against Stanford and for ND's Bowl game.

Kelly says they will have further details on the exact injury to Martin's knee later. Martin was already nursing an injured hand.

Matt Hegarty took over for Martin at center against BYU and will start vs Stanford. Kelly felt Hegarty did a nice job vs the Cougars.

Nose guard Kona Schwenke's status vs Stanford is up in the air. Schwenke reaggravated a high-ankle sprain.

With Nix and Schwenke out, Jarron Jones stepped in at nose guard and played well for the Irish.
