An award-winning Irish author is visiting the United States, to promote the U.S. launch of her latest book.
Beyond Grace’s Rainbow tells the story of Grace Devlin, a young single mother who is diagnosed with cancer. Her best chance to survive is to find a bone marrow transplant, but she does not know who her parents are and struggles to find a match.
Carmel Harrington’s story weaves humor and romance into the tragedy, a mark of her Irish literary experience.
“In Ireland we tend to weave humor into sad situations,” Harrington says. “I tried to do that in the book, and I’ve been told I make people laugh as well as try.”
Harrington will attend a book signing at Barnes and Noble on Grape Road on Friday from 1-4p.m. Then she is off to St. Patrick’s Day parade appearances in Chicago and New York City.
“I’m absolutely enthralled by the celebrations over here,” Harrington says. “In Ireland, it would be not as big an affair. We have some floats, but they wouldn’t be as big as here.”
Beyond Grace’s Rainbow will be available at Barnes and Noble beginning Friday. The full launch date is March 18th.
