Investigation into serious Elkhart crash

ELKHART, Ind. - Investigators from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department are continuing to investigate a serious injury crash over the weekend, according to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

It happened at the intersection of US 33 and Sunnyside in Elkhart near Concord mall on Saturday.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, Darlene Eichelberger, 41, ran a red light, and the driver of the Chevy Avalanche ran into the passenger side door.

Mark Rich, 14, was flown to a hospital in Kalamazoo for head injuries.

He was unconscious at the scene.

Both drivers, and another 13-year-old boy who was riding in the Mini Cooper, were taken to Elkhart General for treatment of their injuries.
