School is out and that means construction season is in full swing, especially in one area in Granger surrounded by two schools.
Monday morning the intersection of Brick Road and Gumwood Road was closed.
It's completely torn up and crews will now put in a roundabout instead.
Traffic is very heavy in this part of St. Joseph County and hopefully a roundabout will help. Sometimes cars are backed up for at a least block in the morning and evening.
At Grace Church they've been preparing for this construction for a couple of years and even paved a separate entrance to make it easier to get there.
August Kuehn, facility director for Grace Church says, “It's a little inconvenient for the summer but by the time school starts and summers ends it should be wrapped up and be really good for the area.”
“It was pretty congested with four ways stops at Brick and at Adams and so what we are doing is installing a roundabout at both of intersections to alleviate the need for the traffic to stop and wait one at a time. It will be constant flow. It will be more of a yield from all four directions, keep traffic flowing and keep it from getting backed up,” says Selge Construction Project Manager, Jamie Plunkett.
The roundabout is expected to be finished by September.
