INDIANAPOLIS Indiana schools do not need to make up the snow days for Monday or Tuesday.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, state superintendent Glenda Ritz says schools can apply for a waiver from the mandated 180 days of instruction.

School superintendents statewide learned of the Tuesday waiver shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. George Frampton, director of the state's accreditation for the education department, said the waiver allows schools to avoid a "very severe financial penalty."

He said the waiver has been used only a few times in the past 15 years. It includes public and non-public schools.
