Monday brought another public plea for Indiana Senator Richard Lugar to get into the game and off the political sidelines.
Lugar has been an Indiana Senator since 1976, but he was defeated in the Republican Primary last May. Lugar is being urged to support the fall ticket, by Indiana’s other Republican Senator, Dan Coats.
“Primaries are tough and there are hurt feelings, but in the past we've always come together to support the winner and that's what the team is all about,” says U.S. Sen. Dan Coats. “So we really need Senator Lugar to acknowledge his service to this state, for all his years he's done great service to the state and for our nation by the same token I’m hoping Senator Lugar would join the team and support our nominee.”
Senator Coats says he has also made a personal plea to Lugar to support Republican Candidate Richard Mourdock. So far, Lugar has not indicated a willingness to do so.
