A transplant surgeon at Indiana University and husband of the University of Michigan Health System's director has died in car crash on Interstate 94 in south-central Michigan during a snowstorm that killed at least eight people in the state.
Fifty-five-year-old Dr. Mark Pescovitz crashed Sunday afternoon in Jackson County. Authorities say Pescovitz lost control of his vehicle, and a semitrailer hit his sliding car.
He was returning to Indiana after visiting his wife Ora Pescovitz, the university's executive vice president for medical affairs.
Authorities say a punishing winter-style storm stretching across Michigan's Lower Peninsula was responsible for the deaths of at least seven other people. WWMT-TV says 2-year-old Chantle Fleckenstein was killed in a Kalamazoo County crash Monday that caused her mother to miscarry.
