Immunization changes have taken place for new school year

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- As kids begin to go back to school in our area Dr. Thomas A. Felger is reminding parents that some changes to school immunization requirements have taken place.

Beginning this 2014-2015 year, the Indiana State Department of Health’s list of immunizations required for school entry includes:

--Two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine (Hep A) are required for all students entering Kindergarten.
--One doe of the Meningitis vaccine (MCV4) is required for all students entering 6th grade.
--One booster dose of the Meningitis vaccine (MCV4) is required for students in 12th grade.

Parents unsure of their child’s immunization status need to check with their primary health care provider or with the St. Joseph County Health Department.

The vaccinations listed above are available at both of the St. Joseph County Health Department clinics Monday-Friday.

South Bend Clinic: 227 W. Jefferson Blvd, 9th Floor County-City Building, 8-12:00 p.m. & 1-4:00 p.m. Walk-in clinic is available on Wednesdays.

Mishawaka Clinic: 219 Lincolnway West, County Services Building, 8-12:30 p.m. & 1:30-4 p.m. Walk-in clinic is available on Tuesdays from 8-12 p.m. & 1:30-3:30 p.m.
