IUSB athletes to attend funeral of Martin's shooting victim in support of teammate

The IU South Bend Athletic Department is showing what team and family is all about.

The department has just three athletic teams---men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball. It's a close knit group.

Members from all three teams including the entire men's hoops program will attend the funeral of Martin's shooting victim Rachelle Godfread on Tuesday.

It's all in support of her son Joe, a sophomore on the Titans basketball team.

Joe Godfread played in IUSB's game Saturday, just three days after his mother was killed. He scored nine points and added three blocks off the bench.

Monday night, the night before his mother's funeral, Godfread was back in the starting lineup for the Titans. He finished with seven points and three rebounds in IUSB's 80-63 loss to St. Francis.

Godfread and IUSB are back at home on Wednesday night.

Joe's family says continuing to play basketball has been a needed escape during this extremely difficult time for the Elkhart Central graduate.
