A member of the IU South Bend faculty will be watching Tuesday's State of the Union address at the White House, or at least close to it.

Alec Hosterman is one of 70 people picked to take part in a State of the Union White House Social being held for those who are active in social media.

“I have been using social networks and social media for four or five years now in my classes, and it started back in 2008 when I taught a Political Communication course,” explains Hosterman. “For me it is a really great opportunity, not just to show my students that you know you can Tweet what you are having for dinner, if you want to but you can actually make change and have some sort of impact with your digital communication.”

Hosterman won his spot at the White House Social by responding to a post on the White House Facebook page. He and 70 others will watch the speech from the Eisenhower Building, next door to the White House. “And they actually said, ‘bring cameras, bring video, bring computers, engage on Twitter, engage on Facebook, do what you usually do with your social networks.”
