The chancellor of Indiana University South Bend will earn nearly $174,000 per year as an education professor after she steps down in June.

Una Mae Reck first will take a year's leave and earn her full current chancellor's salary of $208,000 per year working on special projects for the university.

Reck announced her plans at a meeting of the campus' Academic Senate on Friday.

Her salary as a member of the education faculty her salary will be 10/12ths of what she earned as chancellor under an IU practice in place when she became chancellor in 2002. IU-South Bend spokesman Ken Baierl says the policy changed in 2005.

In addition to teaching classes, she'll hold the title of chancellor emerita and work on special projects.
